C.B. Spivey Jr. and the Rev. William McMahon. Pallbearers were Robert D. Claud, Charles Baker Harding, Owen W. Johnson, N.T. Grizzard, Edward M. Trice, E.C. Smith, S.W. Rawls, Jr. and K.R. Purvis. The wife of Virginia Del. Sam E. Pope, Mrs. Pope died Thursday in Medical College of Virginia, Richmond, after a long illness. A former schoolteacher in Florida, she was a native of Live Oak, Fla. She graduated from Florida State University. Mrs. Pope was a daughter of Samuel Jackson and Mrs. Agnes Phillips White. She was past president of Drewryville Woman's Club, past president of Southside District Woman's Club, secretary in 1960-62 of the Virginia Federation of Women's Clubs and a charter member of Walter Cecil Rawls Library, Southampton County. She was a member of Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Daughters of the American Revolution, and Drewryville United Methodist Church, a past president of Women's Society of Christian Service, and teacher of Ladies Sunday School Class. Also surviving are a son, Samuel E. Pope Jr of Drewryville; two daughters, Mrs. Roger H. Kitchen of Drewryville and Mrs. Thomas L. Robertson of Rockville, Md.; two sisters, Mrs. T.C. Young and Mrs. J.R. Rayner of Lake City, Fla.; three brothers, Herbert P. White of Sarasota, Fla., G. Gentry White of St. Augustine, Fla. and S.J. White of Live Oak, Fla.; and six grandchildren.
