He was the husband of Mrs. Julie Joyner Pope and son of Benjamin Littleton Pope and the late Mrs. Virginia Bryant Pope of Southampton County. Mr. Pope was a lifelong resident of Capron and a member of Capron Baptist Church. Surviving besides his wife and father are one son, Robert Wayne Pope of Capron, four brothers, Ashby Pope and Benjamin Pope of Capron, Thomas Pope of Richmond and Joseph Pope of Portsmouth; four sisters, Mrs. Bessie Thompson, Mrs. Richard Banty and Mrs. Joseph T. Griffin, all of Capron, and Mrs. Frank Whitehurst of Portsmouth. A funeral service was conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of W.J.M. Holland & Sons Funeral Home by the Rev. Dalphon J. Thompson of Capron Baptist Church. Burial was in Capron Cemetery. Pallbearers were Claude John son, Elmo Fowler, D.P. Little, Vernie Francis, L.N. Williams, Leroy Mitchel, Montz Francis and Clifton Williams. William Robert POPE, lifelong resident of Capron, d. 5 Dec 1960, at home, age 51, interred in Capron Cemetery*, 7 Dec 1960, "The Tidewater News" (Franklin, VA), Dec. 8, 1960, Sect. 2, p. 4 *His father is also buried there, with his second wife.
