Robert E. Abbott and the Rev. C. Allen Lawrence. Burial was in Newsoms Cemetery. Pallbearers were L.L. Thorpe, Dave Tom Drake, Russell Ferguson, J.C. Bunn Jr., Lloyd Taylor, George Baugham, Ralph L. Porter and R.N. Darden. Pope, 83, died Tuesday night in his home. A native of Southampton County, he was a son of Henry and Mrs. Addie Stephens* Pope and the husband of Mrs. Jessie Cutchins Pope. He was a member of Newsoms Methodist Church. Besides his wife, he is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Virginia King of Handsom, Mrs. Elizabeth Hancock and Mrs. Barbara Burgess of Courtland, Mrs. Gwendolyn Edwards of Boykins, and Mrs. Gertrude Harrell of Rich Square, N.C.; four sons, Harvey Pope of Courtland, Linwood Pope of Newsoms, James Pope of Holland and William Pope of Newport News; a sister, Mrs. Jennie Nurney of Courtland; a brother, David Pope of Capron; 16 grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
