Pace of this town, died at her home in West First Avenue Sunday morning after an illness of a few months. Mrs. Pace, who was in her 54th year, was the daughter of the late A.B. Cauthorne and Mrs. Virginia Cauthorne of King and Queen County, Virginia and, before her marriage was Mrs. Marie Louise Smith of Baltimore. Besides her husband, she leaves one sister, Mrs. J.D. Haggerty of Sussex, N.J.; three nieces, Mrs. Fred Tucker, Mrs. Williard Pierce, and Mrs. Emmett Ragland, all of Richmond. During her residence of nearly 11 years in Franklin, Mrs. Pace had been active and useful in church, community and cultural affairs; was a woman of unusual abilities and exceptional personality, and had made many valuable contributions to the life of the town and community. She was a former President of the Franklin Music Study Club, and for several years was State Treasurer of the Virginia Federation of Music Clubs, recently resigning on account of ill health. She was a consistent communicant of High Street M.E. Church and young people’s leader in that organization. She was also leader of the woman’s group of Zone One of the Portsmouth-Newport News M.E. Conference. Funeral services were held from the Pace residence Monday afternoon at 4 o’clock, conducted by the Rev. Roscoe Jones of the Methodist Church, assisted by Dr. Elwood W. Jones, Rev. R.D. Stephenson and Rev. J. Sutherland-Watt. The body was taken by motor to Baltimore Tuesday morning for interment in Loudon Park Cemetery, accompanied by Mr. Pace, W.T. Pace, Jr., Frank S. Pace of Norfolk, Mr. and Mrs. J. Fenton Matthews, Rev. and Mrs. Roscoe Jones, Phoebus Jones, Dr. and Mrs. J.D. Haggerty of Sussex, Mr. and Mrs. I.L. Sutherland of Richmond, Miss Sue LaFrage of Norfolk, Cecil Vaughan, 3rd, Geo. H. Parker, Harry Steinhardt, W.J.M. Holland, Jr. and Stanley Holland. Services were conducted at the grave in Baltimore Tuesday afternoon by Rev. Roscoe Jones, assisted by Dr. John Paul Tyler, presiding elder of the Baltimore District Conference, M.E. Church, South. The pallbearers were: W.T. Pace, Jr., Frank S. Pace, I.L. Sutherland, Dr. J.D. Haggerty, S.R. Wallis- Parrish, Marion L. Elliott, Arthur Pierce and John L. Porter of Baltimore.
