PEETE Miss Cherry Peete, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Mark Peete of Southampton County, died Monday morning, June 6, at the home of her nephew, J.G. Claud, in Drewryville, with whom she had made her home for 39 years. She was 86 years old and was a lifelong member of Hebron Baptist church, having in her earlier life been a very active member. She was a beautiful type of Christian character, always finding in everyone the good. She was a second mother to her great nieces and nephews with whom she lived, and was a kind and loving neighbor and friend. Funeral services were held at the home Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock, the Rev. A.W. Coates, pastor of her church officiating. Mrs. H.M. Purviance sang sweetly, "It Is Well with My Soul," this being a request of the family. Her active body bearers were her great nephews and nephews-in-law: Willie Claud of Drewryville, Dr. Harry Claud of Washington, Joe Claud of Norfolk, R.E. Ball of Raleigh, Jennings Connelly of Hopewell and George A. Powell of Boykins. The honorary bearers were friends of the family. She was buried in Drewryville Cemetery, floral designs were numerous and beautiful, thereby showing the esteem in which she was held. "Safe in the Arms of Jesus" was sung at the grave. Cherry T.
