Padgett, 56, husband of Mrs. Louise Vick Padgett, died Saturday, November 24, at a hospital in Portsmouth, after an illness of five months. He was employed 22 years in the Norfolk Navy Yard. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. J.S. Padgett of Smoaks, S.C., where he had membership in Smoaks Methodist Church. Besides his wife, he is survived by five brothers, R.B. Padgett of Jacksonville, Fla., Smith, Garris, Haskell, and Ivey Padgett all of Smoaks, S.C., four sisters, Mrs. Kate Stewart of Burlington, N.C., Mrs. Estelle Morris of Richmond, Rebecca Brunwick of Columbia, S.C., and Della Padgett of Smoaks, and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the Sturteunant Funeral Home in Portsmouth, with Rev. W.W. Trent officiating. Burial took place at Newsoms, with Rev. John W. Morrison, pastor of Newsoms Methodist Church, conducting the services at the grave. The song "Old Rugged Cross" was sung by Mr. Sturtevant, and "Good Night, Good Morning" was sung by Mr. and Mrs. B.L. Bunn and Mrs. Ernest Cogsdale. Pallbearers were: Delia A. Vick, Frank Vick, Andrew T. Vick, Wade H. Vick, Robert Myers and Lawson Sawyer.
