All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ ELIZA WINGFIELD SEBRELL PITTMAN Mrs. Eliza Sebrell Pittman, a highly-esteemed woman of Capron, Va., and mother of County Treasurer V.S. Pittman, died at the home of her son in Capron Friday morning, July 16, 1937, after an illness of approximately six months. Mrs. Pittman, who was 77 years of age, was born at Sebrell in this county, the daughter of the late James Henry Sebrell and Mrs. Virginia Clements Sebrell, and had spent practically all of her long and useful life in this county. She was married to Robert Wiley Pittman who died about 27 years ago, and is survived by an only child, V.S. Pittman of Capron; three grandsons, V.S., Jr., Robert Edward and John Powell Pittman; by two sisters, Mrs. Cela Gray of Portsmouth and Mrs. Nora Wood of Branchville, besides a host of friends. Mrs. Pittman was known and loved for her many sterling qualities as wife and mother and as a woman of unusual Christian character. She was a consistent communicant of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Courtland, the funeral rites being conducted from the home of her son in Capron Saturday afternoon at 4 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Clifford Ramsey, pastor of the Capron M.E. Church, in the presence of a large assemblage of friends and neighbors. The active pallbearers were: G.A. Lankford, H.L. Bain, Dr. J.N. Applewhite, W.H. Story, J. Elwood Fox, C.B. Harding, D.D. Barham, and Lewis M. Marks. Burial was made in the Capron Cemetery. Eliza Wingfield (SEBRELL; Mrs. Robert W.) PITTMAN, of Capron, b.
