All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ VIRGINIUS SEBRELL PITTMAN Virginius Sebrell Pittman, age 83, of Capron, Va., died Saturday, July 23, 1983, in a Smithfield nursing home. He was the husband of Gladys Marks Pittman. He was appointed Treasurer of Southampton County on October 1, 1929, and served in that office for over for forty-two years retiring on December 21, 1971. He was among the thirty county and city treasurers who met at Natural Bridge in September 1930 to organize the Treasurers Association of Virginia and was President of that association from 1949 to 1950. He was a former cashier of the Bank of Capron and a member of the Advisory Board of the Capron Office of the Virginia National Bank and a former Chairman of that Board. He was a member of the Capron United Methodist Church; Capron Ruritan Club; Knights of Pythias; and a Past Member of the Courtland Masonic Lodge No. 85 AF& AM. Surviving besides his wife, are three sons, V.S. Pittman, Jr. of Franklin, Robert E. Pittman of Doraville, Ga. and John P. Pittman of Louisville, Ky.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Graveside funeral services will be held 10 A.M. Tuesday in the Capron Cemetery by the Rev. Glen Langston. The family will be at the home of his son, 217 Hunterdale Road, Franklin. Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, in charge of arrangements.
