WALTER RALEIGH PITTMAN

   COURTLAND - Walter Raleigh Pittman, 85, a native of Southampton County, 
died Thursday morning in a Suffolk hospital.

   He was the husband of the late Mrs. Maude Wood Pittman and a son of John W. 
and Mrs. Josephine Cosby Pittman.

   Surviving are five sons, Elmo Pittman and Cedrick Pittman of Courtland, 
John Irvin Pittman of Arlington, Clarence Pittman of Franklin and Harold 
Pittman; three daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth P. Terrell of Richmond, Mrs. 
Josephine P. Coiner of Alexandria and Mrs. Margaret Baker of Washington; a 
sister, Mrs. Leroy Cornwell of Wakefield, and 18 grandchildren.

   A funeral service was conducted Saturday at the W.J.M. Holland and Sons 
Funeral Home.  Burial was in Riverside Cemetery.
