All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ 20-Year-Old Ivor Youth Killed In Auto Accident William Joseph Pittman, a 20-year-old Ivor youth, died in a one-car accident near Wakefield early Sunday morning, November 13, 1960. A car which he was driving went out of control and hit a tree at about 1:30. Pittman was killed instantly. Joseph W. Owney Jr., Thomas Britt and W.R. Giles, all passengers in the hospital, were treated at Petersburg General Hospital and released. Owney, however, was later admitted to the Raiford Memorial Hospital in Franklin, where he is reported in good condition. State Trooper D.G. Russell who investigated the accident said that automobile went out of control on a curve, skidded into a ditch and hit two trees. Pittman was a native of Geneva County, Alabama, and was the son of Mrs. Theo. Guy Bradshaw. He was employed in Ivor by the Bracey-Johnson Oil Company. Besides his mother, Pittman is survived by his stepfather, Jesse R. Bradshaw. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, November 15, at Wakefield by the Rev. Byrum Holloman of the Ivor Baptist Church with burial in the Ivor Cemetery.
