PILLOT OF FRANKLIN DIES Times-Dispatch state staff FRANKLIN - George Ellis Pillow, president of Bristow Insurance and Realty Corp. until his retirement in 1974, died yesterday. He was 84. He was a founder and for 13 years president of the board of directors of Southampton Academy, a private school, in Courtland. He was a board member at the time of his death. He was past president of the Franklin Rotary Club, and earlier this year was made a Rotary fellow for his 50 years of service. He was past president and board member of the former Raiford Memorial, later Southampton, Hospital. Mr. Pillow was chairman of the board of stewards of Franklin High Street United Methodist Church. He was a former president of Franklin Playgrounds Inc., an organization that built playgrounds and swimming pools in Franklin. He also was a former member of Forks of the River Ruritan Club. Formerly of Richmond but a Franklin resident most of his life, in 1959 he was given the First Citizen Award by the Franklin Business and Professional Women’s Club for his contributions to the community. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Nelle Bristow Pillow; a daughter, Mrs. Nancy P. Bachman of Athens, Ga.; and a son, George E. Pillow Jr., of Virginia Beach. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow at Poplar Spring Cemetery in Franklin.
