All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ JUNIUS WAVERLY PULLEY COURTLAND - A graveside funeral service for Junius Waverly Pulley was conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Riverside Cemetery by the Rev. Harold G. Lewis of Courtland Baptist Church. W.J.M. Holland & Sons Funeral Home, Franklin, was in charge. Pallbearers were Dr. E.F. Reese, Stuart Jenkins, L.A. Clements, Ben E. Babb, Marsden Pulley and J.V. Barksdale. Pulley, 80, former Courtland mayor and Commonwealth’s attorney of Southampton County, died early Sunday in Southampton Memorial Hospital. A native of Southampton County, he was the husband of Mrs. Mayab Owens Pulley and a son of Frank P. and Mrs. Cora Stevenson Pulley. He was a member of Courtland Baptist Church, taught the Men’s Bible Class 30 years, and was a deacon and trustee. He was a member of the Virginia Bar Association, a past master of Courtland Masonic Lodge, twice president of Courtland Ruritan Club, and former vice president and director of the Bank of Southampton County. He was instrumental in establishing the Cecil Rawls Library in Courtland and was a regional board member of the library. He owned Nottoway Furniture Store. Besides his widow, surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Frances Pulley Moore of Courtland and Mrs. Anne Pulley Prince of Capron; three sons, Junius Waverly Pulley Jr., F. Bert Pulley and C. Graham Pulley of Courtland; a brother, Thomas M. Pulley of Ivor; a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Pulley Holladay of Mt. Dora, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
