F. M. POWELL, SR. The death of Mrs. F. M. Powell, Sr., of Boykins, following so closely upon the death of her brother, David Madison DeLoatche, who was buried just the day previous to her own demise, and the tragic circumstances surrounding the causes leading to her death as well as the violent illness of her husband and son, have caused general sorrow throughout the Boykins community and the sympathy of the entire town and section goes out to the bereaved husband and sons, and other loved ones. Mrs. Powell had not been well for some time, but was able to be up until taken desperately ill on Tuesday night, her death following Wednesday at 10 o’clock a.m. Mr. Powell and son, Clyde, ate some canned salmon for supper Tuesday night, and presumably Mrs. Powell did also, as the attending physicians think that her death was cause by eating something containing ptomaines, acute gastritis superinducing dilation of the heart. Mr. Powell and his son were violently ill Tuesday night with symptoms much the same as Mrs. Powell’s but both responded to medical treatment and are apparently well except for extreme weakness. Mrs. Powell was a splendid Christian character and had made her home on abode of peace and happiness for her husband and children. She had been a consistent member of the Boykins Baptist Church for many years and her death will be a heavy loss to this church and its auxiliary organizations as well as to the community as a whole. The deceased, who was Miss Lucy DeLoatche prior to her marriage, was in her forty-fourth year, and is survived by her husband, who is one of the most prominent and useful citizens and farmers of the county; by two sons, F. M. Powell, Jr., and Clyde Powell; a brother, Mr. H. K. DeLoatche and a sister, Mrs. Annie Knight. The funeral services were held from the residence yesterday afternoon at 5 o’clock, conducted by her pastor, Rev. H. P. Dalton, assisted by Rev. Porter Hardy of the Boykins M. E. Church and by Rev. A. C. Jordan. The active pallbearers were Raleigh Moore, J. B. Felts, E. R. Bryant, Andrew Knight, B. F. Britt, Jack Myrick, J. D. Ferguson and H. A. Moore; honorary, E. H. Grizzard, J. W. Fleetwood, W.W. White, J. R. Bryant, J. L. Barham, Floyd Vinson, R. E. Barrett, A. S. Francis, C. F. Carlton and W. J. Sebrell. Lucy (DELOATCHE; Mrs. Fillmore M. Sr.) POWELL, of Boykins, b.
