Roberson of Ridge Baptist Church and James Campbell of Boykins Baptist Church. Burial was in Beechwood Cemetery. Pallbearers were J.M. Britt, Jack M. Powell, W.Hugh Powell, Jr., L.F. Draper Jr., Malcolm Coleman and J.C. Blowe. Mrs. Powell, 72, died Thursday in a Chicago hospital after a brief illness. A native of Southampton County, she formerly lived in Portsmouth. For many years she worked for W.G. Swartz & Co., Norfolk. She was the widow of Leslie Franklin Powell and a daughter of Joseph R. and Mrs. Berlie Drake Hines. She was a member of Ridge Baptist Church, Richmond. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. L.H. Brown of Charlotte, N.C., and Mrs. W.W. Flora of Richmond; two sons, W.J. Powell and P.L. Powell of Chicago; a sister, Mrs. L.R. Weaver of Rocky Mount, N.C.; and 13 grandchildren. Marie (HINES; Mrs. Leslie F.)
