Bulls, after a short illness. She was the widow of Samuel J. Powell and a daughter of Henry and Mrs. Martha Elizabeth Raiford of Southampton County. She was a member of Black Creek Baptist Church. Besides her daughter, surviving are three other daughters, Mrs. Hilda Story of Norfolk, Mrs. Wallace Branch of Newport News and Mrs. Paul Branch of Ivor; five sons, Hudson Powell of Hagerstown, Md., Raleigh A. Powell of Washington, Earl Powell and Paul Powell of Suffolk and Fletcher R. Powell of Los Angeles; 12 grandchildren and 14 grandchildren. A funeral service was conducted Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. in W.J.M. Holland and Sons Funeral Home by the Rev. C.L. Gatling of Black Creek Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
