PEARLE ETHEL ADKERSON POWELL 

   BOYKINS - A funeral service for Mrs. Pearle Ethel Adkerson Powell was 
conducted Thursday in Beechwood Cemetery by the Rev. Ben B. Ussery. 
McDowell’s Funeral Home, Boykins, was in charge.

   Pallbearers were George W. Harding, Samuel P. Johnson III, Charles C. 
Powell, Jack M. Powell, Robert H. Powell III, Robert P. Prillaman, William 
H. Prillaman Jr., and Hinton T. Smith.

   Mrs. Powell, 87, one of Boykins’ oldest residents died early Wednesday, 
Sept. 6 at her residence.

   A native of Pittsylvania County, she was born Aug. 18, 1880 and was 
reared in South Boston.  The widow of Robert Henry Powell Sr., she was a 
daughter of the late Col. Joshua Lee Adkerson and Mrs. Mathe Simpson Walker 
Adkerson.  She was active for 65 years as a member of the Boykins Baptist 
Church.

   Survivors are one son, Robert H. Powell Jr., of Franklin; three daughters: 
Mrs. W. Harmon Prillaman of Bassett, Mrs. Samuel P. Johnson Jr. of 
Petersburg, and Mrs. George W. Harding of Abaco, Grand Bahamas; eight 
grandchildren; seven great grandchildren.
