Holland and Sons Funeral Home by the Rev. Ira D. Hudgins. Burial was in Poplar Spring Cemetery. A native of Hertford County, N.C. he has made his home in Franklin for most of his life. He was the son of McCoy A. and Mrs. Jennie Green Powell, and the husband of the late Rosa Howell Powell. He was a retired millwright for the Birdsong Storage Co., Inc. He is survived by a son Sam Powell Jr. of Franklin; a sister Miss Lucy Powell of Norfolk; and a brother Henry Powell of Eure, N.C. Pallbearers were Alton Vick, Frank Day Jr., Randolph Fowler, M.E. Barrett, Richard Henry Barnes, Bruce Rose Jr., Wayne Moore and Roger D.
