All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ RICHARD MARTIN PHELPS Richard Martin Phelps, 83, of Franklin, husband of the late Mrs. Sallie Phelps, died at Patrick Henry Hospital, Denbigh, on Thursday, April 17, at 8:45 p.m. after several years of declining health. He had been in the hospital only a few days before passing away. A native of Bertie County, N.C., Mr. Phelps was a former employee of Pretlow Peanut Company. In late years he had made his home at 510 W. Second Avenue. Surviving are a sister, Mrs. George Minton of Norfolk; and two brothers, Jesse T. Phelps of Currituck, N.C., and Roland L. Phelps of Norfolk. Rites for Mr. Phelps were conducted at the graveside in Poplar Spring Cemetery on Saturday afternoon at 4 o’clock by Rev. James B. Douglas, pastor of High Street Methodist Church. Pallbearers were L. Bailey Maddrey, James H. Turner, Claudia Wall, Floyd Wall, Willie M. Weede and George Williams.
