BESSIE J. MORRIS POND

   BERLIN - Mrs. Bessie Morris Pond, 77, died Saturday afternoon in her home 
after a long illness.

   A native of Southampton County, she was a daughter of Lawrence and Mrs. 
Rosie Morris and the widow of Harry Pond.  She was a member of Barrett's 
Christian Church, where she taught Sunday school.

   She is survived by a sister, Mrs. James P. Raiford of Berlin.

   The body was taken to Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield, where a funeral 
service was conducted Monday at 2:30 p.m. by Rev. J. McTeer and Rev. C.E. 
Gerringer.  Burial was in the family cemetery.

   records.  Miles (Jr.), 17, appears in his father's household in the 
   1850 Census (p. 315a).  M., 25, is head of household in 1860 (p. 44), 
   with [wife Joanna] J., 19, & [daughter Mollie] M.E., 2.
