Pond, age 79, died Saturday afternoon at her home in Burdette following a protracted illness. Surviving her are three children, Mrs. Irene Barlow of Norfolk, Mrs. Ruth Steele of Huntington, W.Va., and J.T. Pond of Burdette; several nieces and nephews; four grandchildren, E.W. and W.C. Barlow, Leon Steele and J.T. Pond, III, also survive. Mrs. Pond was the daughter of the late David E. and Mary Elizabeth Joyner of Southampton County.* Services were conducted Monday afternoon at 3 o'clock at Burdette Baptist Church by the pastor, the Rev. John P. Batkins, interment being in the family plot near the church. Pallbearers were E.W. Barlow, W.E. Barlow, O.L. Joyner, James Hatfield, Lloyd Raiford, A.C. Carr, Garland Barlow and Percy Barlow.
