Panton was conducted Friday, April 14 at 2 p.m. in Parkview Methodist Church by the Rev. Allen D. Minter. Burial was in Poplar Spring Cemetery, Franklin, with Riverside Funeral Home in charge. Pallbearers were H.E. Branch, O.C. Rogers, Elmore Blosomer, C.M. Staley, R.D. Clintsman and J.B. Lewis. Panton, 60, of 6129 Jefferson Ave. died Wednesday in Riverside Hospital after a sudden illness. He lived here 35 years and worked for Newport News Ship-building & Dry Dock Co. He was a member of Parkview Methodist Church, its Hornsby Bible Class, and was a steward. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Janice S. Panton; his mother, Mrs. Mattie Panton of Suffolk; a son, Scott Panton of Hampton; a daughter, Mrs. Rebecca P. Silcox of Newport News; two brothers, John H. Panton of Franklin and R.G. Panton of Richmond; and a grandchild.
