All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ CORNELIUS HARRISON POWERS Cornelius Harrison Powers died in his 71st year at his home in Sedley on May 14, after an illness of two years. He was the son of the late John and Mary Jane Powers of Princess Ann County and the husband of Mrs. Mae Thomas Powers. Mr. Powers was a valued employee of the Virginian Railway until he was forces to retire on account of ill health. He was a member of the Sedley Baptist Church and a man of such character and personality to win for himself a host of friends. Besides his wife he is survived by seven daughters, Miss Frances, Thelma and Evelyn Powers and Mrs. Albert Whitley of Sedley, Mrs. Churchill G. Glover of Franklin, Mrs. Thomas Harrup of Joyner and Mrs. John Manry of Newport News and by three sons, Lewis, Stanley Burton and Floyd of Sedley and one brother, Shelton Powers, of Suffolk. Funeral services were held at the Sedley Baptist Church on Tuesday afternoon at four-thirty o’clock and were conducted by Rev. W.B. Watson and Rev. P. D. White. The hymns, "Abide with Me," "The Old Rugged Cross," were sung by the choir. "Haven of Rest" was sung by Miss Ethel Fenimore and Mrs. J.D. Owen. "The Last Mile" was read by Rev. P.D. White. There were many lovely tributes paid in flowers, the casket being covered with a blanket of lilies and carnations. The active pallbearers were: W.R. Floyd, Linwood Price, George Hubbard, Ryland, Jesse and James Gray. Honorary bearers were friends of the family. Interment was made in Rosemont Cemetery.
