William Gower. Burial was in Rosemont Cemetery. The body was taken from W.J.M. Holland & Sons Funeral Home, Franklin, to the church at 2 p.m. Pallbearers were Edward Simms, Douglas Simms, Robert Gates, Russell Harris, Billy Jones and Joseph Gardner. Mrs. Pierce, 76, died Saturday morning in Southampton Memorial Hospital. A native of Northampton County, N.C., she was a daughter of Carter and Mrs. Roberta Johnson Francis and the widow of Lewis L. Pierce. She was a member of Grace Memorial Methodist Church. She is survived by seven daughters, Mrs. Marvin Simms, Mrs. E.B. McClanahan, and Mrs. Sarah Hoower of Sedley, Mrs. Linwood Gates of Suffolk, Mrs. W.R. Harris of Norfolk, and Mrs. Avery Carruth of Houston, Tex.; Mrs. J.E. Smith of Houston; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Floyd Jones of Norfolk; two stepsons, Lee Pierce of Chapel Hill, and Thurman Pierce of High Point, N.C., a sister, Mrs. C.H.
