Presson, 67, Mayor of Dendron, will be held at the home in Dendron at 2:30 P.M. Thursday, with interment in the Rocky Hock Cemetery. The Rev. B.H. Watkins, pastor of the Wakefield Christian Church, will be in charge of the services, with the Rev. Robert H. Humphrey, pastor of the Rocky Hock Methodist Church, assisting. Mayor Presson had been in failing health for some time. He died Tuesday in a Richmond hospital. He was a merchant, former member of the town council, a member of the Dendron Christian Church and active in civic and church affairs. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Alice Cobb of Dendron, and Miss Bessie Lee Presson, Washington; one grandchild; one brother, J. Henley Presson of Wakefield, and one sister, Mrs. W.H. Joyner of Courtland. M.Reg. 1898 #34 gives his parents as Joseph J. & Alice. D.Cert. 8245 (Richmond #743) gives his parents as Joel PRESSON & Alice BOOTHE. His father, Junius Joel PRESSON (1846 - 1906), was a Confederate veteran, having served as a private in the Surry Light Artillery. The application to the War Department for a gravestone gives Joel Junius - edited to Joel J. He was buried in a private cemetery near Ivor.
