Parker, was born in Southampton County, Va., on December 16 th 1889. He spent his boyhood and early manhood on his father's farm near Joyner's Va. His gentle manners and amiable disposition won the affectionate live of his devoted parents, who regarded him with special pride as an ideal member of the household. His straight-forward life, his love of truth and his daily practice of right and justice in all his dealing with his fellowmen endeared him to a host of strong and admiring friends. He was made a Master Mason in Courtland Lodge No. 85, A.F. & A.M., in October, 1915, and was numbered among its true and faithful members. He was always ready to obey the calls of duty., and his sympathetic mature moved him to extend a helping hand to the needy and distressed. In March, 1918, he obeyed the call of his country and enlisted in its military service and after training at Camp Lee, he went overseas with the Supply Company 314 Field Artillery on May 27, 1918. With intrepid step and with patriotic heart he followed the flag of his country to the Western front, where no braver soldier ever endured the hardships and dangers of the battle line with more commendable gallantry than did Arthur Lee Parker. On the 6th day of November last, five days before the cessation of hostilities, this noble young soldier paid the supreme sacrifice to the cause of right and justice on the fields of France. While he in a strange land fills an honored grave over which the hands of a loving father and mother, sisters, brother and friends cannot strew with flowers, yet his memory will remain evergreen in hearts now stricken with melancholy, grief and sorrow. Be it resolved: First, That in the death of Arthur Lee Parker, Courtland Lodge NO. 85 A.F.& A.M., has sustained a great loss, he being the first and only member who has fallen on the field of battle. Second, That the star by which he is represented on our service flag be made golden as a symbol of the golden honor which he has won for his family, his ledge, his county and country. Third, That we extend to his family our deep sympathy, and party that God may comfort them in their sad bereavement. Fourth, That these resolutions be entered upon our minutes, a copy sent to the family of the deceased and one sent the Tidewater News for publication. GEORGE B. EVERETT, B.A. WILLIAMS, JAMES E.
