All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ CHARLES WESLEY PARKER Charles Wesley Parker died at his home in Courtland Thursday, September 5, after an illness of two weeks. He was born in Gates County, N.C., November 15, 1886, and was married November 8, 1916, to Miss Clare Williams, daughter of the late Junius W. and Mrs. Mary E. Williams. He was a faithful member of the Courtland Methodist Church, a steward and a member of the Wesley Bible Class, active in all of its interests. He was a member of the Ruritan Club, and served on the Town Council for a number of years. He is survived by his wife; one sister, Mrs. W.L. Brinkley of Corapeake, N.C.; three nephews, Norfleet and Ernest Brinkley of Corapeake, N.C., and Charlie Brinkley of Portsmouth and one niece, Mrs. Howard Harris of Etowah, Tenn. Funeral services were conducted at the residence Saturday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock by his Pastor, Rev. P.D. White, assisted by two former Pastor, Rev. W.L. Burks of McKenny and Rev. J.E. Brooks of Portsmouth. The hymns "My Jesus as Thou Wilt" and "I Will Sing You a Song of That Beautiful Land" were read in the service at the home, with "Now the Laborer's Task is O'er" read at the burial service. Burial was in the Courtland cemetery. Active pallbearers were nephews of Mr. and Mrs. Parker: Burton McLemore, Reginald McLemore, W.T. McLemore, II, Edwin Westbrook, Hennen McLemore, Warren Councill, Norfleet Brinkley and Charlie Brinkley. Honorary pallbearers were stewarts of the Methodist Church and members of the Wesley Bible Class.
