All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ CLARE LOIS WILLIAMS PARKER Mrs. Clare Williams Parker, age 55, well-known resident of Courtland and widow of Charles Wesley Parker, died Friday night, October 10, at the home of her sister, Mrs. Eunice W. Westbrook, after an illness of over a year. Mrs. Parker was the daughter of the late Junius W. and Mary Edwards Williams of Southampton County. She was a consistent member of the Courtland Methodist Church, serving as a teacher and superintendent of the primary department in the Sunday school for many years. She was a member of the Woman's Society of Christian Service, having served as its president for many years, and in 1945 was made a life member of this society by her sister, Mrs. W.T. McLemore. She was also a member of the choir. She was a woman of sterling qualities, and gave so freely of the talents with which she was endowed. Hers was a life of service in the Master's Kingdom, given unselfishly and unstintingly. Besides Mrs. Westbrook she is survived by three sisters, Mrs. W.T. McLemore, Mrs. Bessie M. Wills and Mrs. H.B. McLemore, all of Courtland, and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held from the Courtland Methodist Church on Sunday afternoon at 3:00 o'clock, conducted by her pastor, Rev. Percy D. White, assisted by Rev. W.L. Burks of McKenny and Rev. William A. Edwards of Newport News. John Rollison sang "Be Still, My Soul" and "The Lord Is My Shepherd." Burial was made in the Riverside Cemetery at Courtland. Active pallbearers were H.B. McLemore, Jr., R.W. McLemore, W.T. McLemore, II, J. Hennen McLemore, E.P. Westbrook, Jr., J. Spotswood Smith, Warren Councill, and Norfleet Brinkley. Friends of the family served as honorary pallbearers. Clare Lois (WILLIAMS; Mrs. Charles W.)
