Parker of Wantagh, Long Island, died at his home last night of pneumonia in the 51st year of his life. He was a former resident of our town, being employed here by Knight Drug Company from 1895 to 1898. At the outbreak of the Spanish-American War, he went with Company "I" of this place to Cuba and served throughout the war. For a number of years he was in the Quartermaster’s Department, U.S. Army, in Cuba and the Philippines, later going with the Cuba and the Philippines, later going with the Cuba Lumber and Coal Company and having his headquarters in Havana. When the United States entered the World War he returned to the Government service in the same department and had been stationed at Long Island since that time. Mr. Parker was the son of the late George H. and Mrs. Annie Greenhow Parker of Isle of Wight County and is survived by two brothers, George H. Parker of Franklin and T.A. Parker of Birmingham, Ala., and two sisters, Mrs. Geo. R. Hayes of Franklin and Mrs. Jasper Cotton of Chuckatuck. He married Miss Mary Day of Norfolk who survives him. The body will be brought to Franklin tomorrow (Saturday) morning accompanied by members of the family and interment will be made Saturday noon in Poplar Spring Cemetery with services at the graveside by Dr. Geo. H. Spooner of High Street M.E. Church. The body bearers will be: R.A. Pretlow, W.O. Bristow, R.E.L. Watkins, Dr. E.A. deBordenave, Geo. B. Vick, General C.C. Vaughan, W.H. Lankford and Joe Bynum Gay.
