All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ THOMAS LEROY PARKER Thomas Leroy Parker, 79, lifelong resident of Franklin, died early Saturday morning, February 6, at his home in Webb Apartment after suffering ill health for many years. He was a graduate of the Franklin Military Academy class of 1898. He served Franklin as superintendent of the electric light plant for many years until his retirement and was a charter member of the Franklin Volunteer Fire Department and a charter member of the Burner Bible Class and a member of the Franklin Baptist Church. He was the son of the late Charles Godwin and Susan Daughtrey Parker, of Hertford County, N.C., and husband of the late Ava Howell Parker. Surviving him are four children, Mrs. Thomas H. Canady, of Franklin; Gilbert H. Parker, of Petersburg; Thomas L. Parker, Jr., of Pittsburgh, and Mrs. Mildred Parker Patton, of Miami, Fla.; three grandchildren; four brothers, Clifton Parker, of Ridgeland, S.C.; Luther Parker, of Dillon, S.C.; Joe Sam Parker of , of Frederick, Md., and Harvey Parker, of Washington, D.C.; one sister, Mrs. Janie Parker Burnley, of Charlottesville, and five nieces. The body was taken to the W.J.M. Holland and Sons Funeral Home [...*] were held Monday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Ira D. Hudgins of the Franklin Baptist Church officiating. Burial was in the Poplar Spring Cemetery. Pallbearers were R.A. Pretlow, Jr., H. Leigh Pace, Freddie Williams, J.J. Finley, Jr., Roy Sexton, Hudson Conwell, George Watkins, and Frank Story Cutchin. There is a line running through the print at the top and middle of many of the papers and it effected many of the obits. I've put elipses for the part that's missing.
