Pretlow of this town, died suddenly at her home in South High Street Friday afternoon, May 30. Mrs. Pretlow was the daughter of the late John H. Bogart and Mrs. Mary Barrett Bogart of Franklin, her father, who was a native of Savannah, Georgia, being for many years one of the most prominent figures in Tidewater Virginia and Eastern North Carolina. Besides her husband, she leaves two sons, Bogart A. Pretlow of New York and Bobby Pretlow; a daughter, Miss Evelyn Pretlow, and one brother, W.O. Bogart of Franklin. Mrs. Pretlow, who was in her fifty-fifth year, was a charming woman of unusual intellectual attainments. She was one of the charter members and organizers of the Franklin Book Club, a charter member of the Franklin Music Study Club, and belonged to the Woman’s Club of Franklin in this organization being especially interested in the establishment of a public library for the town. She graduated in 1892 from the Leach-Wood Seminary of Norfolk, and was a charter member of the Irene Leach Memorial, the nucleus of the Norfolk Society of Arts. She was a communicant of Emmanuel Episcopal Church and a useful member of Agnes Lee Chapter, Daughters of the Confederacy. Funeral services were held from the Pretlow home Sunday afternoon at 4:30 o’clock, conducted by Rev. J. Sutherland-Watt, rector of Emmanuel Church, assisted by Rev. R.D. Stephenson. Private interment followed in the family plot in Poplar Spring Cemetery, the pallbearers being; J.C. Cause of Suffolk, Ashley P. Cutchin, Jr. of Petersburg, Dr. E.A. deBordenave, Col. E.E. Goodwyn of Emporia, Dr. Southgate Leigh of Norfolk, Geo. H. Parker, Jno. C. Parker, Jr. and Dr. Beaman Story. Jane "Janey" Dickson (BOGART; Mrs. Robert A.)
