All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ Death of Mr. John Pretlow, Prominent Citizen of Southampton. _____ Suffolk, Va., Oct. 31.- John Pretlow, one of the most prominent citizens of Southampton county, died about 8 o'clock this morning, aged 76* years. Death came at his country home, near Franklin. He had been losing strength some weeks. The funeral services will take place at 2:30 o'clock to-morrow afternoon from the Episcopal Church at Franklin. The deceased leaves an estate worth $100,000. He had given away many thousands of dollars. He leaves a wife and six children, one of whom, Robert A. Pretlow, is superintendent of the Albemarle Steam Navigation Company of Franklin. The other five are: John A., Richard B., Katie Sykes, Barclay and Sue Pretlow. The widow, who is the mother of the younger children, was Sue Sykes. The first wife was Evie Pretlow. The deceased was a cousin of Hon. J. Denson Pretlow and Mrs. J. L. McLemore, of Suffolk. There are others.
