Ben B. Ussery assisted by the Rev. Harold Heath. Burial was in Newsoms Cemetery. Pallbearers were Hayes Crowder, Jr., Marvin Cooke, Raymond Porter, James Porter, Clifton Vick, Harvey Porter Jr., Leroy Griffin and M.C. Amos. Porter, 55 died Saturday after a heart attack. A native of Southampton County, he was the husband of the late Mrs. Lillie Vick Porter and a son of Willie J. and Mrs. Mattie Simmons Porter. He was a farmer. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Mattie Fuller of Emporia, Mrs. Catherine Pope of Winton, N.C., and Mrs. Jackie Ferguson of Boykins; two sons James T. Porter and Roy W. Porter of Boykins; four brothers, Benjamin F. Porter, Harvey Porter and Lonnie L. Porter of Newsoms, and Willie James Porter of Roanoke Rapids, N.C.; three sisters, Mrs. Mattie Pettaway of Richmond, Mrs. Johnnie Pope of Carrsville, and Mrs. Spurgeon Parnell of Roanoke Rapids; and five grandchildren.
