Stephenson, Mrs. Frances A. Porter, widow of the late Robert A. Porter, in her twenty-third year. While the deceased had been in ill health for several months, her death was due to pneumonia following influenza, the scourge snatching her from her loved ones even before their minds had been prepared for her going. There is something about the suddenness of such deaths that seems to prevent one from grasping the full meaning of its inexorableness, and one wonders why the winter of death would so often come to darken and chill the springtime of Life. Especially is this true when the one who is taken is of such an amiable disposition and of such a lovely Christian character as was Mrs. Porter. The deceased was the daughter of the late Newitt Edwards and of Mrs. Talitha F. Edwards. Her husband preceded her to the grave four years ago, since which time she has made her home with her parents and recently with her sister in Norfolk. She is survived by her mother, by three brothers, S.R. and Emmett L. Edwards of Norfolk, and Calvin Edwards of Franklin; by four sisters, Mrs. C.C. Blythe, and Mrs. J.V. Milteer of Franklin, Mrs. Roscoe H. Stephenson of Norfolk, and Miss Virgie E. Edwards of Newport News. A host of friends and acquaintances grieve with the family in their loss. Funeral services were conducted at the grave in Poplar Spring Cemetery by Rev. J.A. Chapman, pastor of High Street Methodist Church, of which the deceased had been a lifelong member. The pall-bearers were Fletcher Porter of Newsoms, Roscoe H. Stephenson, S.R. and Emmett L. Edwards of Norfolk and Lloyd and Fletcher Whitley of Franklin.
