He is survived by his father, Berkley A. Porter, stepmother, Mrs. Lena Gilliam Porter, one brother, Simpson Porter, and a number of cousins, aunts and uncles, with whom he was a great favorite having spent much time in their homes since the death of his mother, Mrs. Etta Bishop Porter, in 1923. Of a sunny disposition he made friends of young and old as attested by the large crowd, especially of young people, who attended the last rites. Funeral services were conducted from Mt. Horeb M.E. Church Thursday p.m. at 2:30 by Rev. C.F. Moseley. The church choir sang "Does Jesus Care," "God Will Take Care of You" and "In The Sweet Bye and Bye." Burial was in the Porter family cemetery. Mrs. J.T. Bryant, Ray Bunn and James Story sang "The Christian Goodnight" at the grave. The casket was covered with a double spray of white chrysanthemums, pink carnations and ferns. There were many other floral designs. Active pallbearers were Walter and Wayland Bishop, Marvin, Ray, and Cecil Porter, Carroll Drake, Ray and Jack Bunn. Honorary bearers were his friends among the boys of the community. Contributed.
