All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ JOHN FLETCHER PORTER John Fletcher Porter, aged 68, a farmer residing in the Newsoms community, died unexpectedly at his home on Tuesday morning, November 18, of a heart attack. He was the husband of Mrs. Bertha Drake Porter of Newsoms, the son of the late Robert and Martha Porter of Southampton County, and a member of the Newsoms Methodist Church. Surviving him are his widow, three daughters, Mrs. Meredith Wood Hayes and Mrs. Clyde Wyatt of 451 Massachusetts Avenue, Norfolk, and Mrs. Ernest Coggsdale of Newsoms; two sisters, Mrs. Clara Blow of Portsmouth and Miss Essie Porter of Severn, N.C.; three grandchildren and several nephews and nieces. Funeral services for Mr. Porter were conducted from the Newsoms Methodist Church on Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock by his pastor, Rev. John W. Morrison, assisted by Rev. F.L. Baker of Richmond. Interment was in Newsoms cemetery, the pallbearers being Richard Darden, Jr., Richard V. Railey, John Q. Worrell, E. Beale Carter, R.B. Story, Jr., L.D. Story, J.T. Story, Jr., and George Prince.
