PORTER OF COUNTY SHOOTS SELF; ILL HEALTH IS CAUSE Mrs. L.L. Porter of Newsoms was admitted to Raiford Memorial Hospital yesterday (Thursday) about 2:30 p.m. as the result of a self-inflicted wound. Mrs. Porter, who was said by relatives to have been in ill health for two years or more, shot herself in her upper chest with a shotgun, inflicting what are feared are serious, if not fatal, injuries, although no detailed reports as to her condition are available at his time. A number of friends from Newsoms accompanied the wounded lady and her husband to the hospital here. ****************************************************************************** MINNIE VIRGINIA ELLIS PORTER Burial services for Mrs. Minnie Virginia Ellis Porter, wife of Lonnie L. Porter of Newsoms, were conducted at the graveside in the Newsoms Cemetery Saturday afternoon at 5 o'clock, her pastor, the Rev. J.W. Morrison, conducting the service. Mrs. Porter died Friday afternoon at Raiford Memorial Hospital from the effects of gunshot wounds in her upper chest, which were said to be self- inflicted and brought on by prolonged ill health. She was brought to the hospital here Thursday afternoon immediately after the shooting, but nothing could be done for her. Mrs. Porter, 48 years of age, was the daughter of the late George Ellis and Mrs. Lillie Simmons Ellis of Newsoms. Besides her husband and mother she leaves three sons, James H. Porter of Newsoms and Raymond Lee and Walter Lee Porter of Franklin; five brothers, Herbert and Pete D. Ellis of Portsmouth, Bennie F. Ellis of Newsoms; Willie B. Ellis of Courtland and J. Stanley Ellis of Franklin and three sisters, Mrs. G.W. Porter of Newsoms, Mrs. Fletcher Taylor and Mrs. W.R. Bryant of Portsmouth. She was a member of the Newsoms Methodist Church and of its missionary organization. The pallbearers were: Jack Bunn, A.W. Tucker, James Story, Richard Railey, E.J. Cogsdale, John Worrell, Russell Drake and Roy Bradshaw. Minnie Virginia (ELLIS; Mrs. Lonnie L.)
