All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ SALLIE TEMPLE EDWARDS BRYANT PORTER Mrs. Sallie Bryant Porter, 66, of the Newsoms community, died in a Charlottesville sanitarium early Saturday morning, January 26, after a long illness. Mrs. Porter was a daughter of the late Winfield and Mrs. Mary Temple Edwards of this county. A member of Mt. Horeb Methodist Church, she was twice married. Her first husband was John S. Bryant of Newsoms, who died a few years ago. Her second husband was Allen Percy Porter, who survives her. Other survivors include four daughters, Mrs. O.R. Harrell of Suffolk, Mrs. J.H. Beale of Branchville, and Mrs. Lewis J. Smith and Mrs. Isaac M. Duncan, both of Norfolk; five sons, J. Sterling Bryant, Jr., Leslie P. Bryant and R.D. Bryant, all of Newsoms, W.R. Bryant of Portsmouth, and Pvt. James T. Bryant, AUS, a prisoner of war in North Korea; eight grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. J.M. Johnson of Carrsville and Mrs. P.A. Warren and Mrs. Tom Garrett, both of Petersburg; and four brothers, W.E., J.D., and H.E. Edwards of Petersburg and C.L. Edwards of Portsmouth. Final rites were held at 2:30 o'clock Monday afternoon at Mt. Horeb Church, with the pastor, Rev. R.B. Moore of Newsoms, officiating, assisted by Revs. J.S. Gresham of Suffolk and J.W. Felton of Portsmouth. Burial was in Newsoms Cemetery, with Walter R. Bishop, Aaron Bradshaw, Benjamin J. Bryant, Thomas C. Cutchins, James A. Ferguson, Harry E. Fowler, Herman W. Porter and John R.
