JAMES ELLIOTT ROWE Mrs. Mary Eugenia Rowe, an aged and estimable lady of the Sebrell community, died on December 2, 1923, in her seventy-eighth year, being mercifully granted by an all-wise Providence her request that she might soon follow to the Great Beyond the soul of her husband who preceded her by only twelve days. Mrs. Rowe was the youngest of a family of ten children of the late Nicholas and Mary Williams of this county, her death leaving only one survivor, a brother, H.K. Williams of the Berlin community. She was married to James Elliott Rowe January 16, 1872, and their wedded life, which was an unusually felicitous one, had passed their fiftieth anniversary which event was happily celebrated last year with their children, grandchildren and other relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Rowe joined Trinity M.E. Church when both were quite young and had been loyal communicants, always attendant upon its services, faithful to its precepts and living in their community lives of useful neighborliness, inspiring and helping others by the example of a home founded on Christian principles and graced by those sterling qualities which make for righteousness in daily living. To this union were born ten children, of whom seven are living: J.N. Rowe of Petersburg, J.T. Rowe of Sebrell, C.H. Rowe, Mrs. G.C. Kirkland, Mrs. J.W. Whitehead, Mrs. G.L. Bryant and Mrs. R.N. Wells, all of Courtland and community. Funeral services were conducted from the home on Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock by Rev. H.L. Weston, pastor of Trinity Church, assisted by Dr. J.D. McAllister of the Franklin M.E. Church. Mrs. Rowe's favorite hymn, "The Haven of Rest," was sung by Mrs. Nettie Howell, Mrs. Ida Williams, Mrs. A.E. Briggs, O.E. Parker, O.M. Joyner and Crawford Wade. Interment was made in the family burying ground by the side of her beloved husband. The pallbearers were: Emmett R. Davis, J. Carlton Kirkland, William Wells, C.C. Howell, W.L. Whitehead, Willie Whitehead, E.C. Felts and Burwell Boothe. Mary Eugenia (WILLIAMS; Mrs. James E.)
