E. Jerome Raiford Dies in Petersburg 

  FRANKLIN, Jan. 29. - E. Jerome Raiford, 60, resident of Petersburg, 
Virginia and a native of Southampton County, died Friday morning at Raiford 
Memorial Hospital after a short illness. 

  Mr. Raiford was born in Southampton County September 28, 1889 [sic*] near 
Ivor, Virginia, the son of tha late George Washington and Almedia Bowen 
[sic; Bowden] Raiford and husband of Mrs. Erma Bass Raiford of 29 South 
Jefferson Street, Petersburg, who survives him.  He moved to Petersburg twelve 
years ago and was employed by Charles Leonard Company of that city.  A member 
of the Second Baptist Church. 

  Besides his wife he is survived by one brother, Mr. E. Wistar Raiford of 
Ivor, two sisters, Mrs. Joseph Hare of Holland and Mrs. Allen Neave of 
Guilford, North Carolina, and a number of nieces and nephews. 

  Mr. Raiford will be taken to the funeral home of J.T. Morriss and Son of 
Petersburg on Sunday. 

  Funeral services will he held Monday morning at eleven o'clock at the Chapel 
of J.T. Morriss and Son, with Rev. H.E. Henderson, pastor of the Second 
Baptist Church officiating. 

  Interment will be made in Blandford Cemetery.
