JERRY J. RAIFORD 

  IVOR - Jerry Johnson Raiford, 83, died Sunday morning in Riverside Hospital, 
Newport News. 

  A native of Ivor, Southampton County, he was the husband of Mrs. Bertha 
Jones Raiford and a son of Everett and Mrs. Martha Johnson Raiford. 

  He was a retired farmer. 

  He was a member of Ivor Baptist Church. 

  Besides his widow, surviving are two sons, James J. Raiford of Ivor and 
David C. Raiford, of Eustis, Fla.; a daughter, Mrs. Virginia R. Schriger of 
Richmond; two sisters, Mrs. Delia Winslow of Virginia Beach and Mrs. Lillie 
Mae Lane of Hertford, N.C.; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. 

  A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. in Purviance Funeral 
Chapel, Wakefield, by the Rev. J.S. Mashburn.  Burial will be in Jones-Raiford 
family cemetery near Ivor.

His parents are buried in a RAIFORD family cemetery, on Seacock Chapel Rd.

His father (1840 - 1914) was a Confederate veteran, having enlisted as a 
   private in Co. B, 9th VA Infantry.  He was discharged after a short time, 
   as a Quaker.
