Raiford, founder of the Raiford Memorial Hospital of Franklin, died in Atlanta Nursing Home early Friday morning after a short illness. She was a native of Scottsville, Albemarle County, Virginia and the daughter of the late Daniel Morgan and Mrs. Mary Abigail Smith Burgess. She was married to Dr. Rufus L. Raiford in 1906, they lived in Sedley, Va., and in 1929 founded the Raiford Memorial Hospital in Franklin. She was a member of the High Street Methodist Church. Surviving her are two sons and one foster son, Dr. Morgan S. Raiford of Atlanta, Dr. Fletcher L. Raiford of Henderson, N.C., and Fred O’Dell [sic; Odell*] of Richmond. Eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. A funeral service was conducted at the grave in Poplar Spring Cemetery on Sunday at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Gilliam C. Bentley pastor of High Street Methodist Church. Pallbearers were: Dr. T.A. Morgan, Dr. J.W. Lambdin, Dr. Henry L. Gardner, Jr., Dr. Kurt Hirsch, Dr. Gordon Birdsong, G.E. Pillow, Jesse Reel and Dr. James P. Broaddus. Lora Katherine (BURGESS; Mrs. Rufus L.)
