All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ MARGARET ELIZABETH HATFIELD RAIFORD Mrs. Margaret Elizabeth Raiford, aged 81 years, widow of Giles Raiford, died Tuesday morning about 3 o'clock after an illness of two weeks at the home of her daughter, Mrs. E.H. Beaton, in the Black Creek community. She was a faithful member of Black Creek Baptist Church and took an active part in all church activities. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Beaton; four sons, L.L. Hatfield of Hickory, N.C., Hunter Raiford of Burdette, Claudie and Linwood Raiford of Washington of Sedley, and 21 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted from Black Creek Baptist Church Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock by the Rev. R.P. Welch of Farmville, assisted by the Rev. Rufus Corbitt of Whaleyville. Burial was made at the old home place in the Black Creek community. She 1m. widower William B. HATFIELD (ca. 1849 - ca. 1880), s/o Wm & Sally, 18 Aug 1874 (Southampton Co. MB2:309). She 2m. Giles RAIFORD (1841 - 1898) , s/o Robert & Mary Ann (LUTER), 26 May 1881 (Southampton Co. Marriage Book 4:332). Giles was a Confederate veteran, having served as a private in Co.
