All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ WILLIAM GOODWIN RAIFORD This community was deeply suddenly by the death of William Goodwin Raiford, which occurred at his home here, Friday morning, June 24. He had been ill for several days, but was thought to be improving when the end came suddenly. He was the youngest of the seven children of Philip and Tabitha Raiford and was born May 1, 1860, spending his entire life at the homestead in which he was born. On March 12, 1891, he married Miss Elizabeth Roberts of Montgomery County, Penn, with whom he lived most happily until her death, the 6th of last April. They made an ideal home, an inspiration to the whole community, and worked together, unceasingly for social, educational and religious uplift. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Charles E. Glenn of Raleigh, N.C.; two sons, Eugene R. Raiford, of Westtown, Penn., and Jesse T. Raiford, of Richmond, a host of nephews and nieces and a wide family connection. The funeral was conducted at Corinth Church Sunday, June 26th, at 3 o’clock p.m. by Nathan Pickett of Sedley and Leslie Frazer of this place. An obituary was read by Mrs. Joseph L. Hare of Box Elder and personal tributes were paid by Miss Fannie M. Pretlow of Franklin and R.B. Wilson of Green Bay; a nephew, E. Jerome Raiford of Ivor, sang "One Sweetly Solemn Thought" Interment was made beside his wife in the family cemetery.
