Raiford, after a long illness, passed away at his home at Corinth last Friday morning, aged 85 years. He was the youngest son of Lemuel and Sallie Fiveash Raiford, and last surviving of their six children. In January, 1887, he married Ada J. Hedgepeth, who died in June, 1939. Their six children survive; Mrs. J.J. Wetherald, Berwyn, Md.; Dr. T. Ernest Raiford, Ann Arbor, Mich.; Ralph W. Raiford, Richmond; Lindley M. Raiford, Washington; W. In his youth he joined Black Creek Baptist Church and remained a faithful member of that communion throughout his life. He was a deacon of that congregation for at least 50 years, and was its oldest member. He was known throughout his community for his innate goodness, and for his active support of all religious and educational movements. Funeral services were conducted at Black Creek at 2:30 p.m. Sunday by his pastor, the Rev. W.B. Watson, assisted by the Rev. Rufus Corbitt of Colosse and the Rev. James R. Stein of Corinth. Joel Holland of Murfreesboro, N.C., sang "Face to Face," and the choir sang "Rock of Ages" and "It Is Well with My Soul." Interment was made in the Raiford burying ground.
