All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ GEORGE CULLEN RICKS Funeral services for George Cullen Ricks, 73, who died Monday, July 30, at 10:30 a.m. at the home of his brother, Richard Edward Ricks, near Boykins after a long illness were conducted on Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m. in the Purviance Memorial Funeral Chapel. Rev. William Ferguson, pastor of the Clarksbury Methodist Church, officiated. Interment was in Hebron Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. Ricks, a retired farmer and lifelong resident of Southampton County, was the son of the late William Matt and Mrs. Sarah Sykes Ricks. Surviving him are three brothers, Richard Edward Ricks of Boykins, David Crockett Ricks of Emporia and William Matt Ricks, Jr., of Branchville; two sisters, Mrs. E.F. Worrell of Boykins and Mrs. R.C. Johnson of Henrico County, and a number of nieces and nephews. Active pallbearers were Paul Cox, R.L. Banty, M.J. Banty, Fletcher Hands, Willie Vick, E. R. Griffin and Frank Spence. Friends of the family served as honorary pallbearers.
