All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ CHARLES RYLAND ROSE Charles Ryland Rose, a well-known citizen of our town died at Catawba Sanatorium early Sunday morning, March 25, in the 41st year of his age. He had been in ill health for some months and went to Catawba seeking relief last November. He was in the electrical department of Rawls Garage here, and was a young man of genial disposition, accommodating and courteous by nature and numbered many friends among the young men of the town and community. His wife and brother, Fred M. Rose, of Norfolk were with at Catawba at the time of his death and the body was brought home for burial Sunday night, the funeral services being conducted from his mother’s home in First Avenue Monday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock in the presence of a large assembly of friends. Rev. R.D. Stephenson of the Franklin Baptist church, of which Mr. Rose was a member conducted the service and members of the church choir sang. Interment was made in the family plot in Poplar Spring Cemetery, the body bearers being: W.R. Atkinson, Wayland Jones, C.A. Watkins, Burnette Johnson and C.T. Galion of Norlina, N.C. The honorary bearers were: Major R.E.L. Watkins, Vance W. Vaughan, T.R. Pierce, Richard Rawls, John Beaton, J.E. Lawrence, Joe Johnson, J.E. Bryant, Wallace Simmons, R.E. Barrett, W.C. Byrd, L.P. Simmons, J.O. Haslett and R.C. Branch. Mr. Rose was the son of Mrs. Rebecca and the late W.H. Rose of this town. His wife, who was Miss Annie Laurie Jones of Atlanta, survives him with three daughters, Nelle, Shirley and Ann Rose. He is also survived by a sister, Miss Lillie Rose, of Franklin and three brothers, Fred M., Livey H. and Robert H. Rose of Norfolk.
