Raikes, 64, died at his home in Ivor January 19, following a brief illness. He was a native of Prince Edward County, Virginia, and had been track foreman for the Norfolk & Western Railway at Ivor for 32 years, where he was a highly-esteemed citizen and a consistent member of the Ivor Baptist Church, quiet and reserved in his demeanor, charitable in his deeds and a man numbering many friends. Mr. Raikes is survived by his wife, Mrs. Annie Harper Raikes; two sisters, Mrs. D.E. Bagby of Blackstone and Mrs. B.S. Oliver of Hampton-Sydney, and one brother, M.G. Raikes of Roanoke. Funeral services were conducted at the grave in the Ivor cemetery by his Pastor, Rev. N.F. Jacobs, assisted by Rev. L.F. Callaham of the Methodist Church. "Faith of Our Fathers" was sung by the choir, and the pallbearers were: R.E. Stewart, A.R. Gardner, G.C. Niblett, L.T. Saunders, W.P. Johnson, C.A. Holt, W.B. Smith, D.H. Pulley, H.S. Boone and W.C. Rawls.
