All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ CHARLES URQUHART ROGERS THE TIDEWATER NEWS Charles Urquhart Rogers, son of Mrs. Rebecca Rogers of this town and the late Philip Rogers of Sedley, died in Norfolk Tuesday morning after a short illness. Mr. Rogers was 29 years of age and had been employed in Norfolk for about four years. His father, who was general manager of the Surry Lumber Company’s interest in Southampton, was one of the county’s most prominent and public-spirited citizens, and young Mr. Rogers was educated at Woodberry Forest and the University of Virginia. He is survived by his mother; by a sister, Mrs. C.M. McCoy of Norfolk, and a large and prominent family connection. Funeral rites were held from Emmanuel Episcopal Church here Wednesday morning at 12 o’clock by the Rector, the Rev. J. Sutherland-Watt, and burial was made in the family plot in Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg. The pallbearers were: Pretlow Darden, Hunter Hogan, William Baker and William McDowell of Norfolk, J.C. Williams, Jr. of Roanoke Rapids, N.C., Emmett Pace of Richmond, John Youngblood of Tarboro, N.C., and Ellsworth Jones of Franklin. A large number of friends from the town and county accompanied the funeral cortege to Petersburg.
