She was 71. A native of Big Stone Gap, Mrs. Rogers was a graduate of Longwood College. She taught at high schools in Norfolk, Portsmouth and Franklin and served two terms on the state Board of Education. She is survived by her husband, Edward T. Rogers; a daughter, Pamela R. Hardy of Montpelier; a son, Edward T. Rogers of Yardley, Pa.; and a brother, Frank Morris of Richmond. A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Franklin Baptist Church. Burial will in Poplar Spring Cemetery. ****************************************************************************** EX-MEMBER OF EDUCATION PANEL IS DEAD Mrs. Elizabeth M. Rogers, a retired teacher and former member of the Virginia State Board of Education, died yesterday in a local hospital after a lengthy illness. She was 71. A native of Big Stone Gap, Mrs. Rogers attended public school there. She graduated from Longwood College, then taught at Carrsville High School in Isle of Wight County for several years. From the 1950s until her retirement in 1961 she taught at Franklin High School here, Oscar Smith High School in Portsmouth and Granby High School in Norfolk. In the late 1960s, she was appointed to the State Board of Education by then- Gov. Mills E. Godwin Jr. She served two consecutive terms. Mrs. Rogers was a member of the Franklin Baptist Church and the Franklin Book Club. Survivors include her husband, Edward T. Rogers of Franklin; a daughter, Mrs. Pamela R. Hardy of Montpelier; a son, Edward Rogers Jr. of Yardley, Pa., a brother, Frank Morris of Richmond; and two grandchildren. A funeral will be held tomorrow at 2 p.m. at Franklin Baptist Church.
