All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ PHILIP ROGERS PETERSBURG, VA - May 9, One of the largest crowds that ever assembled in historic Blandford church attended the funeral yesterday of Philip Rogers, whose death occurred at Memorial Hospital, Richmond, early Monday morning. The edifice was filled to overflowing. More than 100 persons came from Wakefield, Dendron and other sections on a special train over the Norfolk & Western railway. Rev. E.K. O’Dell, who recently assisted in a series of evangelistic services at the Market Street Methodist Church, officiated, and the following were pallbearers: Honorary - General R.E. Waters, Captain Tarlton F. Heath, Parker D. Dox, M.T. Hargis, P.S. Pugh, E. Frank Story, James P. Banks, W.P. Arrington, R.D. Owen and Dr. Joel Crawford. Active - Robert Cabaniss, Charles Hall Davis, G.W. Wingfield, William Cocks, J.C. Causey and Dr. J.F. Slade. Many floral tributes, attesting the esteem in which Mr. Rogers was held, were banked upon the grave. Philip ROGERS, of Sedley, lumber dealer, b. 2 May 1865, near Salisbury, England, d. 7 May 1917, Richmond, interred in Blandford Cemetery*, Petersburg, donated obit *Find a Grave Mem. #69953683 Birthdate &c. from D.Cert. 11982 (Richmond #1146), which gives s/o John & Mary A. (PURNELL) EDWARDS.
